The journey
Route: A8 then A10 towards Genoa, A12 to the Rapallo exit, then the SP227 via Santa Margherita. The border is crossed at Ventimiglia; tolls included. No break is needed, but a stop in Camogli, with its painted façades, is possible. To see Sanremo as well, discover our day trip on the Italian Riviera.
Arriving in the village
The last few kilometres follow the sea on a narrow road and parking is scarce: your chauffeur drops you at the car park at the entrance and returns at the set time. In summer and at weekends, leave early to avoid the queue at Santa Margherita. Another option: finish by sea shuttle from Santa Margherita, in a quarter of an hour.
Yachts and the Gulf of Tigullio
Your yacht is at anchor? We drop you at the quay in Santa Margherita, the departure point for tenders. Rapallo, Zoagli and Chiavari extend the coastline; the cove of Paraggi offers a rare sandy beach. Castello Brown overlooks the gulf, and the abbey of San Fruttuoso can only be reached on foot or by boat.
Weddings and celebrations
A reception at the Abbey of La Cervara, or on a terrace in Portofino, requires several rotations between hotels and the venue. We plan them with your organiser.
When to go
May, June and September are the mildest. In August, the village is full from the morning; in winter, many establishments close and Portofino becomes a fishing village once more.
